Drama in Le Braconnier!

So yesterday we'd just sent out main course and one of our guests  went downstairs as she wasn't feeling very well. Her husband gave us her meal to foil up for later when before we knew it Fiona had run back into the kitchen and told us to call an ambulance!!!

Poor woman had fainted at the top of the stairs and fallen down and smacked her head on the wall/floor. Luckily Fiona's mum is a doctor and the owners live upstairs so knew who to call! She's absolutely fine just has a rather nasty black eye but she should be back on the slopes by tomorrow. PHEW!!!

So yeah, that's a bit of dramatics for ya!

Then after dinner Rob, Fiona and I all sat down with Fiona's family and another family and we all played The Logo Game which was really fun. Mum, Dad we don't play enough board games. I'm buying Trivial Pursuit when I get home.

These are definitely the nicest bunch of guests we've had yet, and there's only 1 really young child so there shouldn't be a load of kids running around singing Gangnam Style like there is EVERY SINGLE WEEK!!!!

As expected, there are a few photos posted onto Facebook of our Cross-dressing Night.

We also went skiing the other day so here's a piccy for you :)

Week 7

Tomorrow will be the start of the seventh week I've been away!! Can you believe it!?!?

Fiona's family are here this week and are staying in our chalet. They're really nice and our transfer day yesterday went swimmingly!

The weather hasn't been too fab recently, especially Saturday and Sunday as the wind had picked up and it just wasn't fun. At all.

I'm afraid I really haven't got much to report, everything has just sort of fallen into place and we have got ourselves an excellent routine and can get out of our chalet by 10 - half ten each morning and before half 9 pretty much every evening which is great as it gives us more time to just chill out in the evenings.

Every Sunday evening there is a theme night at our favourite bar. Last week was "Cross-dressing Night" which was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!! So many guys in tutus and make up. And all us girls had some sort of facial hair drawn on to our faces.

Last night was "Chav Night" which was just a good excuse to go out wearing sweatpants. Of course we had to be a bit rowdier to fit the characters properly but most of us just sound too posh or nice to be a proper chav. T'was tres amusing, I'm sure pictures will eventually make their way onto Facebook at some point.

ALSO, the other day I decided to take a walk around to try and find Mum & Dad's chalet that they will be staying in, after doing some research of course.

I FOUND IT!!!

It's a bit of a shame they aren't in a more central area of La Rosiere, but it's an easy walk down to the chalet, just a bit of a pain having to walk up the hill back home. It's quite a way away from the lift so taking the free ski definitely is the best option!

LESS THAN 2 WEEKS NOW!!!!

Old photo that I finally found!

Finally got my hands on the photo I wanted to show you from our first day off.

Somehow, SOMEHOW David managed this...

Please don't ask how he managed it, but he is floating. Kinda.

Not much else to report at the moment I'm afraid. Trevor & Sarah are here safe and sound and very briefly saw them out of the kitchen window as I was cooking children's lunch. Thanks Ma & Pa for the toothpaste :)

ITALIA!!!

FINALLY MADE OUR WAY OVER TO ITALY!!!

The weather was fantastic today, the sun was out and Fiona, David, Sparky Dave (the maintenance man) and I went over to Italy today which was a really nice change of scenery and knowing that I have now been to Italy is rather cool!

I don't think we chose the best runs to do though as the piste map showed a really long red run which we did but it was pretty much a road that was rather flat and boring but we got David on his first ever black run. And then his second and third!

On our way back home we bumped into Laura and she, David and me went through the Boarder-cross - which is like motercross but for skiers/snowboarders which was fun but we also went through the Snow Park which was great. Did a few jumps and got pretty high.

Only fell over once and I definitely feel my skiing is improving both speed and technique-wise so I'm very pleased with how today went!

Should be going out for a curry tonight, hope it's a decent one as I have been CRAVING curry for about 2 weeks now but it's just nowhere! Finally found a place that does it though, so yay :)

Back to work tomorrow though :( Oh well!

Five Weeks Tomorrow

So tomorrow is the 5 week mark since I left and I don't know about you guys but it feels like I've been here ages! We've all really made it a home from home.

Should hopefully be going to a pub quiz tonight which I'm rather excited about as you know, I love me a quiz!

Had my first bottle of Orangina since getting here, how slack is that?!

On Saturday I was awfully clumsy and dropped the biggest saucepan we have on my foot. whilst the second biggest saucepan was inside of it. Luckily I only bruised the bone (self diagnosed, obviously) which was a bit of a struggle to ski with today but I persevered and had a really good couple of hours out, just me and Fiona.

The weather has been non-stop sun for like a week so we're hoping for a bit of snowfall soon.

Fiona and I had a bit of a panic yesterday! Went down to the garage to make sure it was tidy for the new guests to find all our skis, poles and boots missing! What had happened was the childcare staff had been recruited to take all the families' skiis back to the shop for them and had accidentally included our into the load. I wasn't too worried and actually prefer the skiis and boots I have been given now. So yay :)

I'll keep you posted on how well we do in the quiz.

Photos

So I had some spare time today and the weather was too nice to miss the opportunity to take my camera onto the slopes and take some piccys of the scenery.

I went by myself as I wanted to go slowly and carefully and knew I'd be stopping often. Don't worry guys, I stuck to the runs I knew and went at a careful pace, no problems whatsoever. The only problem was that it was just a little bit lonely so I only did a few runs but here are some of the sights I saw...
These first 2 are on the main blue run

These are all down the forest run called Seez which is so pretty

Just me :)

Expedition to Bourg

Today was yet another treasured day off, slept in til half 9 which was heaven!

Fiona had to go down to Bourg St-Maurice today to have a blood test for her stomach problems and because the weather was rather terrible. It was cloudy at our level, let alone at the top of the mountain.

So, instead of hitting the slopes I opted to join Fiona on a little adventure down to Bourg. We weren't able to get a lift and there are no free buses from La Rosiere, so we had to take the chair-lift down. That's right Ladies & Gents, DOWN a chair lift!!
Picture evidence!
So that was a new experience, got a few funny looks and a wolf whistle - what can I say!?

So when we got down the chair lift we were at the bus stop where the free bus picked us up and took us to Bourg St-Maurice which is like the nearest main town. It's an ok place, not very pretty but he had a McDonald's which we may have had lunch at.

We also went to Intermarche to stock up on supplies as things are definitely cheaper down the mountain. There was a little English section where I purchased Mcvities Ginger Nuts. No chocolate digestives though and the PG tips were super expensive :(

We then had a slight dilemma of not being able to make it back up to resort as the next bus would've got to the bottom of the lift which would've been closed. So after a mild panic from both Fiona and I, we went to the Tourist Office and the lady let us borrow her phone so we phoned our boss who then got his boss, who was luckily in the bank up the road to help us out.

She used her immaculate french to get us bus tickets at a discounted price all the way up to La Rosiere. A bus that left in 2 hours and we had very little money on us so we mooched about for a while then caught our bus back and got home about half 7.

It was a really good day, just did an awful lot of walking but survived to tell the tale :)

Update again soon

Happy New Year!!!

Happy 2013 All !!!

Sorry I haven't updated you all in a while it's been super hectic! Fiona's been ill with a stomach thing so we've had to try and do it all just Katy and I which has been rather tough. Deep cleaning a chalet and cooking for 20 with just the 2 of us is harder than it sounds, especially when you have 1 family like one of them. ARGH!! So infuriating, they're just so happy to complain about every little thing.

For example; On Sunday's it's changeover day so it's non-stop work for which they give us a main course that can be left in the oven to cook - slow braised beef casserole which is SO yummy. This particular family complain to Simon that the meal was "slop". We'd been up since half 3 in the morning that morning as well!!!

But on the bright side, they go home in 5 days and I only have to deal with them for 3 and a bit of those days. Hoorah!

Last night dinner went a little bit wrong. Silly ol' me had put oven on the wrong setting and so was only cooking whatever was on the top shelf as it was on grill. WOOPSY!!!

On a happier note, went out to celebrate the new year last night which was really fun but was rather responsible and got home at 2am ready for my half 6am start. And I was one of the earlier ones to go home!

Shall probably be heading out tonight as it is our day off tomorrow and it's also Amy's birthday. Apparently the weather isn't looking too great tomorrow which is a bummer but shall definitely be hitting up the slopes at least once.

That's all I have to report for now. David is absolutely fine, we we're dancing the night away last night, showing the bar how we do it in Wymondham!!!

P.S. Voice Report: 97% back to normal, just the odd croak here and there but I am able to sing along almost as well as I could before. Should make full recovery within the next couple of days

A couple of pictures so you don't forget what I look like
